Youth must learn and practice more humility to succeed in life and careers
- We at Letsema Centre wishes all young people a joyous 2013 youth day celebrations. We also urge them that in whatever sort of necessary self-reflection and public discourse related to how to advance youth development, including grappling with present-day challenges, youth must acknowledge that they owe it to the humility demonstrated through the Tambo's, Sisulu's and Mandela's leadership generation who achieved greatest successes in life and careers. We further summon all youth to participate actively in different volunteering activities in their local communities including through (in)formal arts, sports, and recreational activities, interfaith or religious activities, small businesses and enterprise development activities, etc, but most importantly, also summon all youth to untiringly learn more and boldly practice humility as part of a conscious self-empowering life long journey to nurture their youthful adventures and professional careers.
- We in Letsema Centre are convinced that young people could achieve more if they humble themselves in everything they think or do towards realising the vision expressed by OR Tambo when he addressed the United Nation's General Assembly on 26th October 1976 inter alia stating that "we will create a South Africa in which the doors of learning and of culture shall be open to all. We will have a South Africa in which the young of our country shall have the best that mankind has produced, in which they shall be taught to love the people of all races, to defend the equality of the peoples, to honour creative labour, to uphold the oneness of mankind and to hate untruths, immorality and avarice". This vision would remain hollow unless our youth fully understands how to conduct themselves peacefully, honourably and courageously in service of humanity as volunteers, activists, and leaders.
